URiM Acting Surgical Internship New York University Grossman School of Medicine
pgy1p
The NYU Langone Health Department of Surgery welcomes students who identify as underrepresented in medicine to apply for our Acting Surgical Internship. The AAMC defines underrepresented as “those racial and ethnic populations underrepresented in the medical profession relative to their numbers in the general population”. This 4-week experience will offer exposure to the practice of General Surgery. For the purposes of this program, we define groups underrepresented in medicine as Black/African-American, Hispanic/Latino, Native American/Alaska Native, and Pacific Islander/Native Hawaiian.
Students who are interested in applying for the URiM Acting Surgical Internship should be committed to pursuing a categorical residency position in general surgery for the academic year starting July 1, 2023 and will be required to complete and submit an application as part of the selection process. A $2,000 stipend will be offered to the two accepted students to help with travel and housing expenses. **This stipend is separate from the stipend offered from NYU on an institutional level and cannot be combined with any other NYU stipend.**
