Rsearch fellow in Minimally Invasive Surgery and Surgical Endoscopy
The Section of Advanced Laparoscopic and Bariatric Surgery and Flexible Surgical Endoscopy in the Department of General Surgery of the Digestive Disease Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi offers a 1-year salary funded research position. This is a unique opportunity to work with established faculty to conduct clinical and outcomes research focusing on foregut disease, bariatric surgery, and general surgery. Previous fellows have been successful in developing and completing original scientific research and presenting results at loco-regional and international meetings, with subsequent publication in major international journals. The research fellow will work closely with the Cleveland Clinic Ohio research team, and much of the productivity is the effort of both teams. Previous experience in, and accomplishments within a research group is preferred. Candidates may use this opportunity to increase their academic CV prior to application for clinical positions including residency, fellowship, and junior faculty positions. For successful candidates, the research time can be extended for an additional 1-2 years.
The Digestive Disease Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi encompasses the Department of General Surgery and the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. This includes 46 physicians and more than 230 caregivers. Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is a clinical national referral center in the United Arab Emirates and a North American-styled academic medical closely aligned to Cleveland Clinic in the United States. The research fellow will work closely with the surgical faculty. Interactions will occur on a daily basis with the team, as well as weekly teleconference to Cleveland Clinic Ohio. Formal evaluations will take place quarterly with faculty in the Department of General Surgery, and twice-yearly presentations will be made to the Chief Academic Office at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
