The Department of Surgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a dynamic and experienced board-certified surgeon to lead as the Program Director of its General Surgery Residency Program. The Residency Program Director has responsibility for overseeing the educational program for the general surgery residency, compliance with all Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requirements, and collaboration with the associated educational programs within the Department of Surgery. The Program Director must develop and implement a plan that will allow the General Surgery program at NYP/Columbia to meet and exceed ACGME standards. The new program director will be tasked with maintaining this program’s reputation and as a national leader in surgical training, while implementing novel and state of the art improvements which will keep the program at the leading edge of the discipline. In addition to being a leader who is committed to the training and development of residents, the ideal program director will commit himself/herself to the long-term success of the residents in their futures beyond residency. He/she will be a passionate advocate for the NYP/Columbia General Surgery Residency program in the broader academic medical community, ensuring the maintenance of a high reputation for excellence. The Program Director will be responsible for overseeing all resident educational activities, including didactics, simulation, and professional development. The Program Director is responsible for supervising the administrative program coordinators and appointing and supervising assistant and associate program directors. The position maintains accountability for compliance with ACGME, New York State Department of Health, New York State Department of Education and New York Presbyterian Hospital regulations, policies and procedures including, but not limited to curriculum design and implementation and resident recruitment and selection, wellness, duty hours, evaluation and promotion, supervision, and corrective action. At least 40 percent effort will be dedicated to the Program Director role and the Program Director is expected to be clinically active
