The Department of Surgery at Mount Sinai Beth Israel (MSBI) offers a unique opportunity for mid level or senior residents (for instance, those doing research embedded within their training) and newly graduated surgeons to hone their skills and acquire the confidence necessary to transition to independent practice. The MSBI surgicalist program exposes the new surgeon to complex surgical disease and decision making processes in general, vascular and thoracic surgery specialties. Under supervision of surgical attendings, the surgicalist will:
(1) Assist in surgery
(2) Evaluate and manage patients in inpatient, ED, and ICU settings
(3) Participate in educational activities of the service working with junior surgical residents and surgical PAs
Requirements:
(1) At least two years of training in an accredited general surgical residency program
(2) An active NYS license
(3) An active DEA number
(4) Current BLS/ACLS certification
Surgicalists will work 12 or 24 hour shifts - mainly at night and on weekends. The position offers a competitive hourly compensation.
