Multidisciplinary Critical Care Fellowship
fellowshipWe have a one-year multidisciplinary critical care fellowship position available starting July 2022. We will consider applications from all specialties, but board eligibility is currently available only for anesthesiology, surgery, emergency medicine, and OB/GYN. We provide primary critical care management for four surgical ICU services: -A cardiovascular surgical ICU that performs more than 70 heart transplants/year, LVADs, complex congenital surgical cases, uses a range of mechanical circulatory support devices, etc. -A surgical ICU that performs more than 80 liver transplants/year, oncological surgeries, thoracic procedures including esophagectomies, etc. -A mixed medical/surgical ICU at the VA hospital with a generous volume of "bread and butter" cases -A rapid recovery unit, which provides care for patients with ICU needs anticipated to be <24 hours In addition, our fellows rotate through other critical care services, including pulmonary critical care and neurocritical care. We have a robust didactic curriculum, including monthly lectures and journal clubs combined with other specialties (acute care and trauma surgery, pulmonary and critical care medicine, neurocritical care, heart failure cardiology, cardiothoracic anesthesiology), a monthly combined critical care conference (also including emergency medicine), July "boot camp," as well as a multitude of additional optional educational opportunities. We also provide extensive TEE training to our fellows, including monthly lectures, monthly reading sessions, and 2 weeks of dedicated time in the OR practicing and implementing TEE exams. These skills are reinforced by the frequent use of TEE in our patient management.
