Program Director,  Educator, and Other Openings

April 2010-Baptist Health System, Inc. POSITION VACANCY:GENERAL SURGERY RESIDENCY PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Baptist Health System, Inc. (BHS) is seeking a General Surgery Residency Program Director to lead its community based General Surgery residency program.  BHS sponsors ACGME approved residency programs that are conducted at two tertiary care hospitals in Birmingham, Alabama.

The General Surgery Program with its ACGME approved complement of 20 residents is one of the five ACGME accredited programs at BHS.  Other BHS programs include Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Diagnostic Radiology, Internal Medicine, and a Transitional Year Residency Program giving BHS a total compliment of 91 resident physicians. The Baptist Health System’s surgical faculty currently includes 34 surgeons in general surgery and a wide variety of surgical subspecialties.

BHS utilizes two large tertiary care teaching hospitals, Princeton Baptist Medical Center (499 beds) and Trinity Medical Center (496 beds) as the major participating institutions for its residency programs.  Both of these tertiary care referral centers have broad clinical programs and have been repeatedly recognized in Alabama as hospitals on the forefront of technological advances in healthcare.   The Baptist Health System residents divide their time equally between the two teaching facilities.

The successful applicant’s time will be spent in administering the program’s academic and clinical activities, supervision of resident physicians, and in clinical practice in his/her area of expertise.  Applicants for this position must be currently board certified in General Surgery and have clinical and administrative experience with an ACGME approved general surgery program.

The Birmingham area is an excellent community in which to live, with a diverse population, appreciation for the arts, excellent primary and higher education institutions, and extensive recreational options that span the spectrum from casual to organized sporting events, motor racing, water and land sports. In addition, the mountains and the beach are just short drives away from Birmingham.
