Surgical Simulation and Education Fellowship
One position open for a current surgical resident or fellow interested in a Surgical Simulation and Education Fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania. This is a funded two-year position for a resident or fellow in good standing, the applicant must have completed at least two years of surgery residency prior to being accepted. The successful candidate will need to meet institutional requirements and interview with faculty prior to being selected and will ideally have several years of experience in an academic institution, although early to midlevel applicants are also welcome to apply. The intent of the fellowship is to equip the selected applicant with the knowledge, experience, and skills required for leadership positions in undergraduate and graduate medical education. This fellowship program has trained surgical residents in education for several years and has established a track record in mentoring education research, outstanding teachers, and careers in surgical education. The fellowship consists of formal training in medical education, teaching residents and medical students, curriculum design and implementation, program evaluation, education research, and simulation as a teaching method. The University has a state of the art simulation center encompassing more than 22,000 square feet. Fellows will also have the opportunity to apply for and pursue a Masters in Medical Education from the nationally ranked University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education while also pursuing their own educational research and initiatives. Previous experience in teaching surgical students/residents should be included in your CV. This fellowship primarily is a research-focused experience (no clinical rotations). A faculty mentor will work closely with you to identify specific goals for your professional growth and identify a mentoring team. Fellows are also expected to function responsibly and autonomously to further the University of Pennsylvania’s goal of being a world-class surgical education center.
