Surgical Critical Care Fellow
UT Southwestern Medical Center has an open position for its ACGME accredited Surgical Critical Care Fellowship for the 2019 - 2020 academic year. We are looking to fill the position with a highly qualified, recent general surgery graduate interested in becoming an expert in the practice of evidence-based critical care. The mission of the UT Southwestern Surgical Critical Care Fellowship is to provide fellows with a comprehensive structured cognitive and procedural clinical education. The fellows will work with fellowship trained, board certified trauma surgeons and anesthesiologists who will aide them in becoming proficient and professional surgeons adept at leading a multidisciplinary ICU team. The majority of the fellow’s clinical responsibilities will be in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) at Parkland Memorial Hospital and SICU at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital. Our fellows will achieve certification in the Advanced Trauma Operative Management (ATOM) Course.
Upon completion of the Surgical Critical Care Fellowship, the fellow will have succinct knowledge of cardiovascular and pulmonary physiology, pathophysiology, ventilator management, cardiovascular monitoring and interpretation. The fellow will be competent in the total operative and non-operative management of multiply injured trauma patients, and in the diagnosis and management of postoperative complications across a broad range of surgical patients.
